V.P. Choice

I have to say I was kind of excited to see what the Republicans would come up with in the way of a VP pick. Not excited in the "I think it will be a progressive and great choice." No, more in the vain of excited for the cluster F*&k I have come to admire in the Republican party this election cycle. Boy they didn't disappoint. First let's talk about picking a woman because the Dems didn't. Oh my god I could think of several more qualified, respected and formidable women candidates. If I were Elizabeth Dole, Condi Rice, Christine Todd Whitman or Olympia Snowe I would go up to every man in the McCain Camp and kick them in the balls. Now I understand that there are problems with many of them most of which they are pretty liberal for Republicans, but let's talk about better choices. Do we really want a half term Gov/former mayor of 9,000/beauty queen from Alaska to be a Hardee's thickburger away from running this country. I haven't even gotten into her politics yet. This is a woman who in the election for Govenor was for the Bridge to Nowhere that was ridiculed but Reps and Dems alike on the Hill and then when became Governor said she didn't have a grasp of the budgeting aspect before winning to know that it was a bad plan. Honestly I want my candidates to have a grasp of anything that has to do with the job they are running for. Winging it is not something I want from an elected official. Especially when we are talking national defense or the deficit. Winging it is fine for the front line at McDonalds.



Ok so here we go. She is a feminist I will agree, I being a male feminist would say that feminism is about making choices, not having them made for you. If she wants to have kids great, if she wants to work great, if she wants to believe that even if your 12 yo daughter is raped and pregnant and carrying the child to term could cause serious damage to said 12 yo, that she should keep it. I think is a bit nuts but whatever, your choice. But seriously should we make her 17 yo daughter get married just so the child isn't a "bastard" a bit much. I have known people who do that and end up divorced down the road. I also know people who didn't marry while in high school and wait for both to be in a better place to get married, that may take years but it puts so much less pressure on the marriage and the kid. All that aside, because that just makes her a creepy woman and not someone I would be friends with but doesn't necessarily impact my voting.

I will tell you what does. Her stance on woman's rights to choose. Her stance on health care in this country. As a woman and a feminist I would think she would want as much access to health care for women. Women utilize or should utilize more of the health care system. Look at it this way. We all get sick, given so that is a wash on usage. However we all can't get pregnant. Only roughly 51% of the population can achieve that. So that means all the prenatal visits and health care for mother and unborn. Also the delivery and post delivery care. Wouldn't it be less of a drain on the system if woman had freer access to Dr.s before they give birth and have complications because of poor nutrition or something an ultra sound could catch. Enough about that. She also opposes siting the polar bear as endangered because of climate change effecting it's feeding grounds. She supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. She vetoed a bill passed by the Alaska state legislator on Nondiscrimination because it had a section including homosexuals.

I could go on but really this is not who I want in the white house. Maybe some people do and that is fine for them. But I am probably not going to be invited to their parties.

Ding Dong the Witch is dead

Now I am not one to celebrate the death of people, BUT there are few in this world that I will not mourn their passing. One is Jerry Falwell. I have no love loss for that, and I use the term loosely, man. He was a vile and hateful person and his legacy of hate will most likely live on. He has been an inspiration to so many hate mongers and those who would rather divide than unite. The words acceptance and tolerance are, I mean were so far out of his vocabulary. I shouldn't be but I am happy that I can speak of him in the past tense.

Today I also listened to a partial interview with Newt Gingrich. I say partial because he had agreed to be on for a full hour and then after forty minutes said time was up and just hung up. Before hanging up he was asked about how he felt about his role in how politics have become so divisive since his "Contract for America" He actually sat there and said he felt that he had no part in that. I so very much have to disagree. This is a man who encourage the rhetoric of hate the opposition because they are evil and lets say the worst things about them, "Anything to win" mentality. There is no compromise only our way. Now as the elections and presidential bids are coming together he is all about coming together and mending fences. Bullshit you just want to get elected. Let's talk about a few things Mr. Gingrich, let's hate gay because they are easy to hate and it gets people to vote for you. Except you have a gay sister, I bet she loves you or hates herself. President Clinton was wrong to have an affair it was immoral and he should be impeached. Ummm... didn't you have a mistress while your wife was dying, yea that would have been you.

The Flu Bug or Election Results

I have been home sick the past few days. Really since voting on Tuesday. I believe in the notion of voting and whatnot but Wednesday I was ready to move to Toronto at least then I could have gone to a Dr.:o)

It's not so much the "Morality" issue or the "War on Terror", but the economy is really in the crapper and not looking to get better anytime soon. Just this morning and really after Kerry's speech. The media has really started bring up the realities of the administrations policies and how they will effect the future. They say if we privatise Social Security even just for a few million people that it will cost the government trillions of dollars. To make the Tax cuts permanent will also cost trillions of more dollars. They were also talking about businesses still doing weak and the slow growth that we have had that caused the increase from the Fed will slow down the economy even more and the bond market is looking bad as well.

The question I have is where were all these points before the election. People were so busy reporting the campaign and the results from the debates and how that did or did not help either candidates that we stopped hearing about the real news. I think in the entirety of the campaign I heard one report on what would the country be like with Kerry's policies and what the country be like with continuing Bush policies. Most annalists said that Kerry might be able to cut the deficit in 5 years but more like 10 and Bush would at least take twice as long. So much for the Fiscal conservatism.

As my friend Sarah said that a lot of times politicians will pull a bait and switch on their campaign promises, and I believe now is no difference. One of the problems and a lot of republicans have already told Bush is that if he has to appoint a new Judge to the Supreme court that he should pick a pretty moderate or centrist judge. With that there would be no over turning of Row Vs. Wade and Gay Marriage will depend on who can argue better. And if he appoints Sandra Day O'Conner to Chief Justice then you will have a pretty moderate and centrist court. So really these moral issues that the president was elected on my come to bite him in the ass. Back to O'Conner I must say I really like her. Though I do not always agree with her I have been surprised to find many times I do. Mostly because I find her fair and going a lot of how well argued a case is.

Well back at a computer I have been bitching to myself a lot so it's good to get it out.
