Just rolling my eyes

Seriously what goes through Special K's head. Not much I am going to assume. A while back she left a class unattended for the entire period and today she did it again. This time I wasn't even suppose to be in the room so a fall back of me taking care of things wasn't really an option. I don't know what her problem is I mean I would never dream of just taking off like that. There have been times that I have run an errand or have a meeting and know that I would be a minute late but I have always told Special K this. I find this level of irresponsibility baffling. So I just sent an email off to the VP and let her know.

On another note. I had a student out for the first 4 weeks of the semester and asked the other VP where said student was. The gist was "He will be gone til *insert date* and that is all you need to know." Great what do I do for make up work and the like? All that aside the kid comes back and today I hear him telling classmates he was in rehab. That wasn't shocking it actually explained quite a bit. But as a teacher I would have liked to have gotten the heads up. Especially since this child is involved with activities where we leave campus. I don't know the legal ramifications of that but still I think it would have been good for those of us who spend copious amounts of time with him to know and be aware. Not that I will follow him everywhere he goes of root through his bags but if I see behavior like before I will know I should give someone a heads up because the problem may have return.

But what the hell do I know?

Been Busy

With life and work and really haven't had much to say.

My friend S has a blog and I love reading it because 1. she writes so well and 2. I like staying with what is going on in her life. I was saddened to here that she was having problems with the people who read her blog and that they may feel hurt by what she has to say. It happens I understand. If I were to be hyper aware of everything I said and if someone might take offense I would never write anything. Life is about choices, we can choose to read or not read a blog. We can choose to be offended or not. That is where most people get tripped up, instead of being honest with people we harbor deep seeded resentments. Many times the person we resent doesn't even know they have offended us. How as an offendee resolve this? Well if you know the person well enough or are bold enough, tell them. If not get over it. That is also a choice that people do not exercises, myself included. I wish that I let more things just go. I will say I have more so than in the past. Also I am a firm believer in saying what you mean. Example; my friends love buffets, I mean drool over, love buffets. If they could live at a Golden Corral they would. (I am exaggerating but you get the idea.) I do not enjoy the Golden Corral. I do enjoy Chinese buffets. I know what you are saying "WTF? what makes one better than the other?" Well I am glad you ask, my justification is that Chinese that you order for delivery and what you get on a buffet are one in the same. If I go to a Chinese restaurant I would get the same. That cannot be said for the like of the Sizzler. When I order Mac and Cheese at a restaurant to does not come liquefied as it would be found on the steam trays. I also would never eat a steak at Ruth Chris if it appeared in front of me like it does off the buffet bar. I am just sayin'.

Now I do not begrudge my friends their all you can eat experience. I still go, not happily, when they as a group decide to go. They may disagree, but you know what when I want to go to a Chinese, Indian, Thai or other ethic fair, I do not drag those friends along because I know they don't care for it, save Romeo, Athena or Xena and that is why I call them. I also don't expect them to go to the symphony with me or other art events because I really think they would be bored and that is fair. I really wasn't planning on talking about that but whatever, it fits into my choices tirade.

Really what I wanted to say was that first of all most all of my friends I would say are left leaning in their politics. And yes this year we have what I would call a refreshing change of pace. Both of the remaining candidates are people I would vote for in the general election. Yes I am a Clinton supporter I like the Clintons always have always will. Do I think Hillary would do a better job, yes. Do I think she is by far more prepared to handle the presidency from day one, absolutely. Do I have more faith in Hillary then Obama, yep sure do. Given a choice between Obama and McCain I will go with Obama. If those are my choices. For me I am just happy having 2 great candidates for the democrats. Let's be less divisive in the primary because it will only hurt us later. Let's not be dicks to one another, support Hillary, support Barak, that is your choice. It is also your choice to be or not be a jerk to those who do not support your candidate. Let's be adult enough to disagree and get over it. I don't like the Golden Corral do I hate my friends who do? No because then I would have to hate my father who also loved the Buffet and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. We all have choices to make in life, like'm don't like'm I don't care just don't be a jerk about them. I will cut back on my disgust of buffets but I still won't like them. :) I guess you could also support McCain, but really why would you. :) Kidding... sorta.

And no I really don't want to talk about it.

Life is full of disappointments kiddos, get use to it.

My boyfriend

Though I don't watch the show I have seen episodes and I find him completely adorable. I'll take him. Any man that would put a stapler in a jello mold is my kind of guy.

OMG Shut the Fu@#! up already

Out of a nine period day (one being a zero period before school that I actually have a class during) I teach 7 of. I have 2 periods to just get shit done. Like grades, replying to phone messages, emails, prep for the next days classes, blog, you know important stuff. What I don't have time for is Special K sitting there asking me questions like. "Did you get that evite from *insert teacher here*?"

I respond "Yes".

She continues "Do I need to respond to it?"

"I don't know."

"Well if I don't then he will just send a follow up." "Blah Blah Blah, more shit that is just bugging me to the point that I have had to read an email twice because I could focus the first time because you voice is like a woodpecker on my skull." I am paraphrasing she didn't actually say that but she might as well have. I understand people feel the need to fill their time with inane questions and need to speak to someone out loud, but if someone is obviously working or otherwise occupied don't bother them. I would appriciate it more if she would say something like, "Are you busy can I ask you a question?" Instead of injecting herself into my work. Some of us need this time to get things done or just to relax and not work.

Here is the thing we share one class out of the 6 I teach and the 4 she teaches. Why is gods name does it need to occupy 90% of my time. She will interupt my class on a regular basis to ask questions that could have been sent in an email. Or if she would take sometime to familiarize herself with where things are in her Band room 75% of all questions would go away.

Well I need to go now and set up for my next class.

My Partner???

So tonight a parent asked if I was ready for Ireland. I said I was and she followed it up with "Is your partner going?" The funny thing was I wasn't tripped up by the word partner but by the fact that she thought I was dating someone. I looked at her funny and she said "Or your "roommate"?" very wink wink nudge nudge. I said no I don't really have a roommate and then clarified that I wasn't dating and haven't been for years. I had to chuckle to myself. I am not out per say at work but I am not hiding anything either. I know how gossipy the the parents can be I would love to be a fly on the wall for some of the conversations about me. I think that is the first parent to flat out ask or infer it. I find it funny, I think I may have confused her because of my quizzical look. A well, as long as they don't start thinking they need to set me up because I could actually see that.

Fun with computers

So about 2 years ago my desk top got a virus (whore) and it prompted to get a laptop, which I love btw. Well I have over the weekend decided to try to breathe some life back into it. So far so good. I am actually learning quite a bit about computers. Of course I will forget all of this new found knowledge because hopefully I will not have to use this information again.

As I write this I am getting 6 years worth of software updates on my old computer. I have been doing this for the last 2 hours and I think I am about caught up. It's amazing how much better it is running. I really just want it to store old info that I don't want on my laptop. Plus I need to consolidate my music library right now it is split between the two.

Yea another set of updates down time to restart so they can take effect. If only I could do that with my life from time to time. Just plug into a network and have new info just dropped into my mind to make my life run better. Ah dare to dream. However if my mind was as prone to crashing as much as windows I would have to reconsider.

Bizarre yet productive day.

Yesterday I woke up around 7am with a killer head ache. I was also in the clothes from the night before and on the couch. Yep you guessed it my friend Jack. Really not as bad as it sounds when I left the bar I wasn't feeling any effects from the three drinks I had. I got home and sat down on the couch and contemplated food I was a bit peckish and that is when it all came rushing at me. I was sitting on my couch drunk. I turn on the tv with a box of goldfish and that is really all I remember I must have passed out and turned the tv off at some point. Anyway. When I got up I took some advil and went back to bed, well the couch. When I got up I was really hungry I contemplated many options I had nothing quick and easy to fix, I didn't want to cook, and I didn't want to order in. I did however have a craving for Chinese. Understand I have no love for Buffets except Chinese buffets. Why is that you may ask? Well because the way chinese food is made is the also the way it is on a buffet. You can't say that about every buffet. Take the Golden Corral. Steak should never be mass produced and then left under a heat lamp. This goes for so many things. Anyway.

I wanted Chinese so I called my friend Romeo and we were off. the food was good the company was better. We even went to DSW because I needed to use up some coupons I had for there before the expired. I got these really nice Steve Maddens only $30 yet another pair of shoes I have to fit in a bag for Ireland. That is a whole other entry. I got home and felt oddly inspired to do some work around the house. I moved my desktop downstairs along with my desk. I did the dishes, laundry, cleaned the downstairs baths, and started on the living room. I also started trying to fix my old computer. Due to some unpleasentries about 2 years ago it went bat shit crazy and hasn't worked right since. Thus my excuse to get a Laptop (that is what I am typing on now.) I really want to get my desk top up and running again so I can use it for music storage and porn storage. I would like to start using my lap top for work more and having all that on here tends to slow it down.

Well that was my day strangely productive. *Sidebar* Anyone else have difficulty getting the spell check to work on blogger or is it just me?

Happy S.A.D.

For those of you who are unaware of S.A.D. please let me be the first to inform you of this wonderful new holiday. Those devils at Hallmark did it again, seeing the untapped market on valentine's day they invented Singles Awareness Day aka S.A.D.. This is an opportunity to get into the single market that seems to avoid February 14th altogether. When you visit the hallmark store and purchase 3 cards solely for yourself and non other then you will receive with that purchase a fifth of Jack Daniels and a plush bear. This bear is much like the bears they usually sell but they don't come in pairs or magnetized. These bears come alone and with velcro so they can attach and separate quite easily. They don't need to find a bear with a compatible magnet or a magnet at all just sit to another bear until satisfied and release. Be careful some velcro may take fur or unwanted debris from other bears. You may have to bring the bear in for cleaning at the free Hallmark S.A.D. clinic.

Alas a day for us singles where we are free to do or not do as we please any money spent on this day is strictly for you and you alone. Feel no need to placate anyone with flowers or dinner or a card. Just sit back, order a pizza, put in the porn and roll over and go to sleep whenever you want without talking or cuddling.

Happy S.A.D. everyone except married people or those in relationships you have your day leave me alone.

“Romance is dead - it was acquired in a hostile takeover by Hallmark and Disney, homogenized, and sold off piece by piece.”

That time has come again when I must do my duty to remind people of an often over looked holiday. What is this holiday you ask well it is Singles Awareness Day or S.A.D.. This day is celebrated every year by single Americans and some Canadians.

We singles need this day to remind ourselves, that we are not tired down to a loveless marriage or saddled with unsurmountable debt from unwanted children who should have fixed our relationship but only made things worse and led me to sleep with my secretary. No, we are free, free to sow our oats. Even though most of us are not farmers, but that is not the point. We are free to come and go or cum and go as we please. We can sit at home read a good book, watch tv, walk around naked, own as much porn as we like, have people over(after we stash the porn), go to a movie, go to a bar, yes my single friends the world is our oyster and we can grab the pearl or pearl necklace and not have to share.

See many would have you believe that a relationship is what you need. And who is telling us that? People who are already in a relationship. The pushers. Yes I said it. I am relating those in relationships to drug pushers because that is what it is... a drug. Much like any drug it's fun at first. It didn't really cost you anything but that is where they get you. They give you a taste and then it's too late, you have spent more money than you planned and you are trapped. There is no 12 step program for this, cold turkey makes it worse. The withdraws are horrible you just want to shoot the poor bastards. Then time out of one they just want back in one. Just like drugs. The road of vice has only one possible conclussion "Until death do we part". Just like drugs.

So on Thursday when climb out of the bed that you don't have to make because no one is there to tell you to make it because he left around 2 am, and you begin celebrating S.A.D. remember it's a big world out there and you are not alone. Well except for right now in that big house with no one to share your life with ... oh god I am going to die alone!!!!!!

Happy S.A.D. everyone!!!

Oh Come On

I knew it wasn't going to be. I have been fooled twice this semester. Not really fooled, because both times I knew it wasn't going to happen. Yes I am refering to snow days. The school was once again abuzz with thoughts of snow days. Those wonderful reprises from the daily grind, where one could stay curled up on the couch by a roaring fire and do absolutely nothing. I wouldn't have to plan the next days lesson because I would just use the one I had for the day I am I curled up. La la la. Alas it was not to be. In my heart of hearts I knew it was not going to happen. But it's nice to dream right.

In the spirit though I had gone to the store last night to get some essensials.
1. Popcorn for...
2. The movies I bought in anticipation
3. Some good green tea to sip all day long. (Don't look at me like that I am a homo after all.)
4. Ice Cream because I felt like it.
5. A frozen pizza because like hell I am going to really cook.
6. and the most important thing I would need for my day by the fire and tv. Duraflame logs. Because without a fire there would be no fire.

With all that in tow I knew it was going to be a balmy day. Well it wasn't quite balmy but it wasn't the blizzard of 78 or even a DQ blizzard...mmmm... Blizzard... Anyway.

So I get up this morning get ready waiting for that phone call that never came. I was surprisingly ok with that. What I wasn't ok with was the freezing mist I had on the way to work. I had my defrost on full and still it was freezing almost on impact. That was good times. Um not really. Today was a late start for me I was planning on being there at 7 but it was more like 7:08. The real problem was people calling me enroute. I was having visablity issues and sorta slick roads not to bad but bad enough I didn't want to chat. Plus before 8am I am really not good for phone conversation.

All in all it would have been nice to have had the day off but I am fine with how it all worked out. I have a free period maybe I will go to Starbucks...MMMM... Chai tea...

Seriously thank god for the weekend.

Yes indeed I have a weekend where I am required to be at school or a school event.

And what pray tell should I do with all this free time. I am glad I asked. I may venture down to my new crack shack. Yes I have been knitting and yes it is an addiction now. I love looking for yarn and I love looking for hardware. This place is so great it has a much larger selection of yarn both differnt kinds of wools and blends and colors. The limitation of color choices has been bothering me with such places as the Hobby Lobby and JoAnns. This place has a huge selection. Also I don't feel like a preditor in this place. When I go alone to HL or JA's I feel like they are look at me like I am a pedophile. When Xena and I went last weekend there were two men in the store knitting, oh yes I could also just go down and knit. How cool and before you say it yes, how lame as well. I don't care.

Now the one draw back to this place is that I do pay for the joy of knitting. It is very expensive and I have to monitor my treks there. I could be heading to Bankurpcy court if I go too much, but I would have lots of Bitchin Sweaters!

I am trying to stave of the Flu that has been traversing the halls here. I am really tired but I have hit that tired run down phase where you find an odd reserve of energy. I have been really productive tody. I caught up on Lesson plans for 3 of my classes. I am now 2 weeks ahead. Yea I don't know where this is coming from but I am running with it till I drop, which I figure will be 7:32 tonight. Here's hoping Crazy Me will do the laudry and straighten up the living room and maybe do some dishes., because Lazy Me hasn't been doing much and Motivated Me has been screening his calls.

Oh praise jebus

My 8th period is gone today. I can leave early if I want to.

And I do.

Am I a Tyrant... or do I care if I am a tyrant?

I ask you do I ask too much of my students. I am not waiting for your reply because I knw the answer is no. There are in fact many times when I feel like a push over. For my ensembles here are my expectations.

1. Show up.

2. Have your instrument.

3. Have your music.

4. Be prepared. (that has some wiggle room really it's be as prepared as you can be.)

5. Put your things away properly.

These are pretty easy things to do right? Right? Apparently not. We do fine for the most part with steps 1 and 2. 3 is acceptable and 4 is getting better. Where we seem to have the problem is 5. I too often find music and instruments just laying about. Now I will have to say it is emmencely better than when I started here 4 years ago. Special K never addresses this problem. Yes the first year or two I was met with resistance, mostly because the students were never asked or expected to do it. After the first few years it got better. Now we just need to fine tune some areas. When it comes to my classes the expectations are similar, Show up, be prepared, don't be disruptive and we are golden. For the most part this is fine.

So why think I am a tyrant. Well Special K never asks or expects them to do anything. Instead she bitches and maons to me and herself when things go badly. Say drummers lose their sticks constantly because they don't put them away. Well one thing is she never gets on them and makes excuses for them. They are Teenage boys for god sake they forget 2 minutes after you tell them. Don't get mad just say it again. I find it funny that she is the big push over that lets the kids do what they want when they want because they whine and complain to her but for the most part the kids are afraid of her. They come to me, who really is the one who gets on them for one thing or another. I can't count the number of times this year kids have asked me something and I have to refer them to Special K and they look at me and say, "I don't want to." "Why?" "Because I am scared of her." "Really???" "Yea".

To myself I don't see how I am less frightening then her. I am by far the biggest prick on the podium I lose my temper more than she does, and yet I still come across as the nice one. But then again the kids always know when I say something I mean it whether it's yes or no. Mostly it's no because kids have stupid ideas. :)

Things I hate... today.

1. The copier at work tops my list today. It likes to change, without warning, the direction that it is copying. Normally I would just put the to be copied on top and let them get sucked through. However when dealing with music, which is at an odd size I have to do it manually.
Thus making for lots of wasted copies.

2. On a related topic to copiers. Publishers that make their music too big to copy all of the music on a normal size piece of paper. I mean seriously you charge too much for music and it's just a pain in my ass. If it were cheaper to buy extra then just making copies I would but it's not so I won't.

3. On days where it rains I hate drivers. I swear if someone spit on the road people would freak. I understand the need to be cautious but come on. Is there really a need to break every 3 seconds. You are going to cause more accidents then prevent by doing that. Yes I am "Belligerent Gay Drive" Super hero to none, just angry at the world. My super power is the ability to drive, text, and flip people off.

4. The god damned writers and studios for giving us a spring season of reality TV. I actually found several shows I enjoy on television and I may never see them again because of this crap.

5. Special K. No new reason but I swear I have enough to keep me going.

6. Students who won't shut up.

Ok well that is enough spewing of bile. It doesn't help I have a headache but whatever.

Suck it Patriots

I am glad to see that the Patriots lost last night. Though I think they are an outstanding team, what I don't like are their fans. This is true for most athletic teams most ravenous fans but New England seems to be the worst lately. They are sore losers and even worse when they win. I enjoy teams and athletes that are realistic about the way they may have played bad or good. Humility is lost on professional sports these days. When people lose it's always some other factor other than they didn't play as well or the other team/person was better. There is nothing wrong with that. We all have better days then others and it's ok. It is also fine to celebrate you successes and it is fine to recognize your teammates they were working just as hard.

How butch am I 2 days in a row I have blogged about sports (sorta).

Now to gay it up a bit I give you a celebratory moment for Eli and the Giants. Yes check out who is singing with Queen.

I feel so butch

And I will tell you why. I like to keep up with my Alma Mater *Go Dawgs!* in basketball. I really don't follow any other sport, but College Basketball is where it is at for me. I come from a small midwestern liberal arts college and I never thought something like this could happen to... wait wrong story. As a small midwestern liberal arts university in a less then powerful conference we are labled part of the Mid Majors. I have no problem with that because for the most part our conference plays on a very different level then say a Big 12 school. I accept this and am fine with it. So I understand when we are underrated in comparison to the big dogs. However when it comes to the rankings with others of our kind I get a bit testy. We are currently 19-2 We have not lost to a Power Conference School all season. We have beat teams from the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten and some formidable teams like Southern Illinois. We are currently ranked 12th in major polls and we have an RPI of 23. With all that in mind...

Why I ask you, why are we ranked 2nd on the Mid-major poll. And who are we behind? Gonzaga. Fucking Gonzaga. I will give them proper respect they are a fine team and remain consistant over the years however this is not one of those years. Fo the most part every major conference team they have met they have lost to. They ar 15-5 (remember Bulldogs 19-2). They lost to Texas Tech (We beat Texas Tech). They are in a conference that ranks 12 (We are ranked 10th). They have an RPI of 34 (we are 23 see a trend here.) And they are ranked by ESPN at ... wait ESPN doesn't have them ranked, but wait surely the Associated Press must have them listed among the finest teams in the Nation... wait no no they don't either (umm hello number 12 over here.) OH ...oh... it gets better because you know who else is ranked St. Mary's. I think they are in the WWC, wait it'll come to me why is that important...Think.... Yes that's it Gonzaga is in the WCC too. But how can this be you must be asking yourself Gonzaga must be ranked higher then them it's Gonzaga after all. No because St. Mary's actually has a good non conference record and a better over all record (17-3). So why I ask you why for fuck sake would they be ranked above us. Everyone else seems to get it. Again they will receive a superior seat in the brackets come March and everyone will be shocked when they get upset by a 12 seed.

This rant has been brought to you by the letters F and U (collegeinsider.com those are for you). And Testosterone.

Haha
Titsworth
Haha

I knew it...

deep in my heart I knew it was too much to ask for. We already have Monday off. I knew I wouldn't be lucky enough to get a snow day today. Ah well, so here I sit at my computer, at school while Speacial K is off with her "students" playing garage band on her new Wii. She asked if I wanted to join. I declined. God I fucking hate her sometimes.

So watched the season opener of Lost last night. It went about how I expected it to. Poor Hurley. That guy just has the worst luck. So the real question now is why is it the Ocianic 6? did only 6 people get off the island? If so why only 6 and what happened to everyone else? And who was the creepy blck guy chatting with Hurley? I swear the more I watch the more questions I have. For every one answer I get, they creat 12 more. They are drug dealers. They must be, give you a little taste and then you are hooked. Damn them, damn them and their interesting show. (Shaking my fist while swearing "Curse you J.J. Abrams, Curse you!")
